Malta Maritime Authority at Norwegian Maritime Exhibition

The Malta Maritime Authority recently participated at the 18th edition of Nor-Shipping Exhibition 2001 held in Oslo, Norway.

The Nor-Shipping Exhibition, which is considered to be one of the world’s most prestigious maritime exhibitions, this year attracted over 690 exhibitors from 1,200 companies hailing from over 50 countries world-wide.

The highlight of this year’s exhibition was the overwhelming participation of 20 shipping and shipbuilding nations including the Malta Drydocks. The presence of the Malta Maritime Authority together with Malta Drydocks was aimed at promoting Malta as a leading maritime nation.

The Malta Maritime Authority‚s third consecutive involvement in this event goes in line with its policy to market Malta as an international maritime centre at the heart of the Mediterranean by promoting various maritime services and facilities. Through its participation, the Authority seeks to establish and consolidate its contacts with foreign shipping and maritime companies particularly in respect of ship registration amongst the maritime community in Norway.

The four day event held over an area of 25,000 square metres in seven halls was visited by around 13,500 registered visitors making Nor-Shipping Exhibition, one of the world‚s leading shipping exhibitions. Its popularity is also increasing at a steady rate. In fact, in 1997 there were 630 exhibitors, in 1999 there were 653 and this year, a total of 690 exhibitors took part.

This year‚s opening ceremony was attended by King Harald V of Norway who was accompanied by Norway‚s Minister for Trade and Industry Grete Knudsen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
