Will VAT appear in the new updated policy?

The Labour Party will soon publish its adjourned economic and financial policy after a year of internal discussions and meetings with operators in the various sectors.

Economic observers are waiting anxiously to see what position the Labour Party will take as regards VAT, general taxation and state subsidies.

The draft document gives an overview of the Labour Party’s basic principles and then expounds on three particular themes: the political vision of Malta as ‘Switzerland in the Mediterranean’, globalisation and the need to give Malta a new economic direction to encourage private initiative.

The policy review is expected to spell out the MLP’s political vision on particular issues such as sustainable development, the Gozitan economy, SMEs, consumer protection, subsidies and information technology. The document will also delve into the various economic sectors.
The Labour Party’s National Executive and district committees will discuss the draft publication during the summer months. The final version is expected to be ready by October when the document will be discussed and approved at a general conference.
