Malta at Europa Park
The Frankfurt office of the Malta Tourism Authority recently took the
initiative of promoting Malta in a rather unusual way and in an unlikely
location amongst the roller-coaster rides and other attractions
at Europa Park, Germanys largest entertainment park.
The promotion was organised and co-ordinated by MTA Frankfurt with the
co-operation and support of Corinthia Hotels International, Air Malta
and its subsidiary German based tour operator Malta Direkt Reisen.
Information on Malta was distributed to visitors and a number of games
for children were also organised. A folk group from Malta gave shows
throughout the day.
Local delicacies and wine from Malta were distributed to visitors to
the Malta booth. There was high interest in Malta from the parks
visitors who mostly originate from Germany, France and Switzerland.
Europa Park, located in Germany next to Freiburg in a region popularly
known as the Black Forest, is only a few kilometres from the French
and Swiss borders and is certainly one of the most popular family attractions
in the area.
In meetings with the park owners Juergen and Roland Mack, MTA Frankfurt
Director Joseph Galea, suggested the idea of a themed area within the
park for Malta when the park is extended in the coming years.
Mr Galea explained that the theme of the Knights of Malta could lend
itself excellently in portraying Malta and enable the park management
to create rides and attractions around this theme.

On their part the park owners were happy to have hosted Malta and invited
the Malta Tourism Authority to hold another promotion at the park in
the next months.
Plans are in hand for MTA Frankfurt to have a second promotional event
at Europa Park in Spring 2002.
