HSBC and GWU sign new collective agreement

HSBC Bank Malta and the Professionals and Services Section of the General Workers’ Union have signed a new collective agreement for non-clerical categories within the Bank. The Collective Agreement, covering the period from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2004, was concluded following lengthy discussions, which are said to have been conducted in an amicable and professional manner by both parties.

"HSBC is delighted not only that this agreement, which will benefit everyone involved with the Bank, has been concluded but also with the fact that all sides conducted the negotiations in a cordial and constructive manner," explained HSBC Malta CEO Tom Robson.

Mr Vella also expressed his satisfaction that a number of new concepts have been introduced in the Collective Agreement, which will enhance the working conditions and at the same time increase the efficiency of these categories.

These concepts include, amongst others, key time hours, split working patterns for cleaners and revised disciplinary procedures. The Agreement also contains an enhanced financial package.

HSBC’s Tom Robson and Head of Human Resources Christine Davies signed the agreement on behalf of the Bank while the GWU’s Professionals and Services Section Secretary Karmenu Vella together with Assistant Section Secretary David Magro, Victor Carachi, President of the HSBC Group Committee and the PRO of the HSBC Group Committee Ernest Agius, signed on behalf of the Union.
