Toly wins two international packaging awards

- Lm500,000 new investment

Toly Products, one of Malta’s oldest established manufacturing companies, recently won two prestige packaging awards. In the USA, a heavy-walled luxury skin care package won the package of the year in its category. This package was produced for Biodroga’s exclusive new Futuresse line.

Toly Chairman Andy Gatesy commented, "We are very proud to have won this international award as not only did we manufacture the package, but we also designed the package, competing against other well known international design companies.

In France, Metapack, one of Toly’s subsidiaries, who focus upon promotional packages, also won the ‘Formes de Luxe’ luxury packaging award for a promotion for Jean Paul Gaultier. This promotional package comprised a chain onto which the Jean Paul Gaultier perfume is worn.

With its international network, today the Toly Group of Companies are able to compete for luxury packaging contracts on a worldwide basis.

With Toly’s head office now based here in Malta, Toly is raising the profile of Malta in the international cosmetics world.

Toly also recently opened a new Malta factory housing a state-of-the-art UV lacquering facility following an investment totalling Lm500,000 with the line being housed in a Class 100,000 air-conditioned, clean room.

Toly started its local operations in 1970 and was the first company to open on the Bulebel Industrial Estate. With an initial commitment to employ just 40 people in one factory unit, today Toly occupies seven factory units and employs over 450 people.

With its own sales offices in London, New York, Paris and Brussels, Toly is well equipped to service a multinational customer base. over the past 10 years, Chanel has become the company’s largest customer worldwide.

Toly started working for Chanel in 1990 after investing in their first UV lacquering plant. Toly Produces fragrance packaging, skin care packaging as well as being the main supplier of compacts for Chanel worldwide.

Toly’s business with Chanel has grown steadily over the past 10 years. Last year, Toly produced over five million compacts for Chanel and this heavy demand for compacts stretched Toly’s UV lacquering capacity. Hence the need for a second UV lacquering line.

Toly supplies packaging to both Chanel’s manufacturing plants in the USA as well as in France. In addition to compacts, Toly also makes packaging for Coco, Cristalle and No. 5 fragrances, skin care caps for Chanel’s high profile Precision line and eyeliners and nail polish packages.

Whilst business levels have recently slowed down due to the global economic recession, Toly Products remains committed to manufacturing in Malta. With a strategic approach of vertical integration, the company is able to service its global customer base from start to finish, going through toolmaking, development, injection moulding, decoration, UV lacquering, mirror cutting and assembly, all within the same facility.

This clear strategy is driving Toly towards being a world leader in its industry.
