Trelleborg Dowty expands its investments

Trelleborg Dowty Malta is fast proceeding in its re-structuring exercise, which will see it leaving its old premises in Mriehel – in operation since 1969 - and moving into seven purpose built smaller manufacturing units at Hal Far.
Speaking at a recent tour of Dowty’s new manufacturing plant, Competitiveness and Communications Minister Censu Galea pointed out that Dowty is “a clear manifestation that through the right input, the Maltese workforce can act competitively within a global economy. One of our main economic pillars is reflected in our human resources providing an excellent labour force capable of delivering a high-quality product or service at a reasonable and viable price.
“Foreign entrepreneurs seeking to invest should not only focus upon cheap labour costs but also for an overall efficient delivery, which I believe, within this perspective, Malta has a positive track record. This stands for reasonable costs of labour coupled with a well-trained workforce capable of operating within a Total Quality Management framework and manufacturing with minimal defect rates. This is what promotes Malta’s competitiveness as a nation.”
Each of the seven new units at Hal Far unit will serve a specific market sector for premium 'O' Rings. This move together with the restructuring initiative will greatly improve Trelleborg Dowty Malta's quality, cost and delivery performance to its global customer base. It will also serve to meet and exceed customer expectations and to further strengthen the Company's good image within the marketplace.
Operating in the highly demanding and competitive market for premium quality 'O' rings, the Company is heavily investing in the latest technology and in training its employees to meet the new challenges of a changing work environment.
“Competitiveness is not merely the mission statement of the Government. It is a responsibility to be carried by all concerned. Whilst being the key to our growth as a nation, we have the right tools in ensuring that we meet such demands. This company has strived in investing and improving its overall delivery thus enhancing its operations and maintaining its goals with an ever-expanding global market,” Galea adds.
Trelleborg Dowty Malta Limited forms part of Trelleborg Group, which is based in Sweden. Trelleborg is a globally active industrial group with over 130 manufacturing sites worldwide.
