Advisors to Prime Minister and Finance Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister employs two advisors who are Mr Alfred Cachia, responsible for the organisation/co-ordination of state occasions and incoming official visits and Mr Henry Degabriele, who is an advisor to the Planning and Priorities Co-Ordination Directorate.
The Finance Ministry employs one advisor, Ms Philomena Meli, who advises the Economic Policy Division. Ms Meli is a director of the Central Bank of Malta and was appointed as consultant to the Ministry in February 2004.
Alfred Cachia is paid Lm4,219 per annum with an allowance of Lm940 and is contracted to work a 20 hour week. Mr Degabriele is paid Lm 1,500 per year for a 20 hour week, while Ms Meli earns Lm6,600 yearly for her advice and contributes 30 hours of her week to the ministry.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi supplied the information in reply to a parliamentary question and questions put to him by The Malta Financial and Business Times.
