Curmi, Paris, Scicluna & Co. merges into Deloitte & Touche

Two of Malta’s best known professional services firms have agreed to join forces effective from 1 January. Curmi, Paris, Scicluna & Co., the firm run by Chris Curmi and Bernard Scicluna, will be merging into Deloitte & Touche, one of the “big four” global audit firms.
Paul Mercieca, managing partner at Deloitte & Touche Malta, was very enthusiastic about the merger, “All of us are excited by this merger which we feel will significantly strengthen our organisation as one of Malta’s leading multi-disciplinary professional firms. Chris and Ben bring with them a perfect fit of skills to consolidate the multidisciplinary offering of our firm.”
Chris Curmi will continue to practice as partner in the field of international taxation. He is a Council Member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners and Chairman of its Tax and Operations Committee. Among other appointments, Chris is a member of the International Tax Committee of Nexia International and has been a speaker at various international fora on the subject of international taxation; a member of the Malta Institute of Taxation; a founder member of the local branch of the International Fiscal Association and a member of the International Tax Practitioners Association & Offshore Institute.
Bernard Scicluna will continue to practice as partner in the field of audit and assurance. He is a Council Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and a member of the Accountancy Board (the regulator of the Maltese accountancy profession). Among other appointments, Ben also sits on the Permanent SMP Task Force of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and is a member of its Rapid Response Team which provides technical comments to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) on proposed amendments to international standards on auditing.
Chris Curmi & Bernard Scicluna are equally enthusiastic about the new prospects: “Assisting our local and international clients to grow in an environment of ever increasing specialisation has attracted us to the synergies of merging with one of Malta’s leading multi-disciplinary professional firms. The merger will also help ensure the consolidation and strengthening of technical excellence and expertise which has been the hallmark of CPS’ service to its clients.”
CPS International Limited will continue to look after Nexia International's clients' interests in Malta. The merger will bring the total number of partners at Deloitte from 10 to 12.
Deloitte refers to one or more of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, a Swiss Verein, its member firms, and their respective subsidiaries and affiliates. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu is an organisation of member firms around the world devoted to excellence in providing professional services and advice, focused on client service through a global strategy executed locally in nearly 150 countries. With access to the deep intellectual capital of 120,000 people worldwide, Deloitte delivers services in four professional areas -audit, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services - and serves more than one-half of the world’s largest companies, as well as large national enterprises, public institutions, locally important clients, and successful, fast-growing global growth companies. Services are not provided by the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Verein, and, for regulatory and other reasons, certain member firms do not provide services in all four professional areas.
As a Swiss Verein (association), neither Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu nor any of its member firms has any liability for each other’s acts or omissions. Each of the member firms is a separate and independent legal entity operating under the names “Deloitte,” “Deloitte & Touche,” “Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu,” or other related names.
