Cassar White libels Joseph Cala

Malta Shipyards Chairman John Cassar White and the company’s Chief Executive Officer Chris Bell have file two libel suits against American investor Joseph Cala who allegedly circulated an email to the media with a series of “defamatory” allegations in their regards.
The libel cases were filed at the Magistrates Courts by Lawyer Andrew Borg Cardona and call on the Courts to award them damages.
Joseph Cala issued an email to the media last May 25 titled “Cala Corp. ceases negotiations with current Maltese government and Malta Shipyards, and its “defamatory” contents were published on euroinvestor.co.uk/news website and was subsequently carried on di-ve.com and MaltaMedia.com.
As Mr Cala’ is not resident in Malta, an application was made to have curators appointed in his name.
Joseph Cala of Cala Corporation was reportedly involved in negotiations with Malta Shipyards for a multi-billion dollar project involving the construction of underwater vessels that would host casino’s and spa’s.
Last week, BusinessToday revealed that Cala Corporation has an accumulated deficit of US$11.2 million with a company stock that clearly shows that has underperformed in the last year.
The SEC return for the end of September 2006 the index and the shareholders stock have experienced a negative 40% according to a Bloomberg source.
