Emirates Skycargo attains new heights

Emirates SkyCargo scored triple honours with recognition at the Cargo Airline of the Year Awards in London, the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards in Macau, and the Changi Airline Awards in Singapore.
The Cargo Airline of the Year Awards marked the airline’s achievement of Best Airline to the Middle East 2007 for an incredible 19th consecutive year. Emirates SkyCargo also won Best Airline to Africa 2007 for the first time, reflecting the carrier’s growth in this region over the past year.
On the other side of the world, the airline also won the Best Air Cargo Carrier - Middle East at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCAs).
In addition, Emirates SkyCargo was conferred the honour of being one of the Top 10 Airlines by Cargo Carriage’ at the second annual “Changi Airline Awards”. This award ceremony was established to recognize airline contributions to Changi’s growth and to honour top performing partners.
Ram Menen, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo said: “Emirates SkyCargo is honoured to receive consistent recognition from across the globe.”
Emirates SkyCargo has received these awards at a time of significant growth, highlighted by the inauguration of 11 new destinations worldwide in 2006 including dedicated freighter services to Malawi and Barcelona. The cargo carrier has already commenced one new freighter route in 2007, with the start of a weekly service to Djibouti.
Last year also saw the introduction of Emirates SkyCargo’s next generation cargo reservations system – SkyChain – which is already providing benefits for freight forwarders such as tracking and tracing facilities and consignment planning tools.
Emirates SkyCargo also made a large investment in its future freighter fleet in 2006, ordering 10 Boeing 747-8F freighter aircraft with options for a further ten, in a deal worth an estimated US$5.6 billion at list prices. It currently serves a global route network that spans 88 destinations in 59 countries.
Emirates SkyCargo is represented in Malta by Cassar & Cooper Limited. Emirates flies from Malta to Dubai five times weekly via Larnaca, Cyprus. The new Boeing 777-200 used on the Malta route has a freight capacity of 18 tons each way.
