Huge increase for cruise line passengers

‘In line with expectations’ – VISET

Bianca Caruana
A good turn-out for the books it seems for cruise liner companies and the Maltese tourist market according to this year’s statistical analysis on the amount of cruise passengers. The Maltese National Statistics Office report established a grand 60 per cent increase in passengers on cruise liners. This report has been documented for the month of June this year as compared to statistics gathered in June 2006.
The largest proportion of passengers, according to these statistics, comprises of persons within the 40 to 59 years age bracket. There seems to be an exceeding percentage of male passengers over female passengers by 1.3 per cent.
Speaking to Business Today, VISET Marketing Department representative Joshua G. Giordimaina said, “this is very much in line with projections established in December of 2006. We predicted a 10% increase over last year’s statistics and it looks like that we were spot on with our expectations.”
According to Giordimaina, bookings are still very much consistent with projections ascertained during meetings held last year. The data used by the National Statistics Office of Malta has been compiled on the basis of administrative records held by the Malta Maritime Authority.
