Former Smash TV general manager Andrew Farrugia has parted company from the station owned by Managing Director Joe Baldacchino and will be opening a new television channel on cable, Business Today has learnt.
Broadcasting Authority (BA) chief executive Kevin Aquilina confirmed yesterday that the station – Family Television Network — will start broadcasting on Melita Cable as from 29 February this year.
“On 17 January 2008, the Broadcasting Authority approved a cable television licence to Far-Fetched Media Limited to operate ‘Family Television Network’”, Aquilina told Business Today.
Company records show that Far-Fetched Media Limited’s two directors and shareholders are Andrew Farrugia and his wife, Elizabeth, with 5,000 shares each.
Aquilina said the relative application was filed with the BA thirteen days before it was granted, on 4 January 2008.
Last Sunday, the television station placed an advert in The Sunday Times advertising a number of posts, including sales representatives, operations assistants, Head of News and On-Air/Off-Air technical personnel.
The television station will provide family-oriented, educational and entertainment programming complete with a comprehensive news service containing programming which is appealing to all members of the family. Further details about the programming will be given by the Family Television Network during its launching later on this month.
