Business Seminar: Seamless Communication and Collaboration for Media Companies

Exigy gave the opportunity to various companies operating within the Media Industry to learn more on how they can build upon information sharing and team collaboration within their company.
Exigy organised a 90 minute seminar at the Hilton, Malta during the first edition of the Digital Arts Expo, an exhibition and conference mostly targeted for professionals and enthusiasts interested and/or operating in the digital media industry. Representatives from Studio 7, Communique Creative, Malta Business Directories Ltd. and the Malta Federation of Industry were amongst the attendees who registered for this seminar.
Exigy presented its Collaboration Solution, based on Microsoft SharePoint Technologies, and how this can assist companies within such a diverse industry to better manage their business activities through a solution that works the way their business does.
Mr Francois Grech, Exigy’s Executive Director, opened the seminar with a run through the challenges that most media companies are faced with on a daily basis and how a centralised collaborative environment can address such challenges in the most efficient manner. Attendees were demonstrated how through a single infrastructure for internet, intranet and extranet portals, the collaborative environment is not solely internal to the business team, but is extended to include end customers and other business partners. Another major emphasis of the presentation was on the seamless integration of the Collaboration Solution with Microsoft Technologies, allowing users to comfortably work within the familiar environment.
Document management and paper work containment were highlighted as the major headaches for designers and editors to overcome. Mr Grech showed how Microsoft SharePoint’s approval workflow functionalities, which can be fully integrated with Microsoft Office and Outlook, can help to adopt a more structured approach to content management. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server was described as a Business Intelligence Portal and Report Centre, having one central document repository and thus showing one version of the truth.
Mr Robert Gauci, the Business Development Executive at Exigy, provided attendees with a more practical example of how Microsoft SharePoint Technologies can actually contribute towards enhanced collaboration and information sharing. By means of a walk-through demo, Mr. Gauci further explained the approval workflow capabilities and how customers are enabled to supply their advertising content through a secure portal, from where the designer and/or editor can either accept or reject this content, with the customer being informed and assisted accordingly.
A major point mentioned here was that end users can easily access and update the content supplied to them through this process. End users cannot edit the same document simultaneously, allowing better document management and ensuring avoidance of multiple versions of the same document. It was also explained how the end user is required to enter a description of the changes that have been done to a particular document, allowing differentiation between major and minor changes.
