New last minute interest registered in Alitalia

Alitalia’s extraordinary commissioner Augusto Fantozzi yesterday said he received another expression of interest for the purchase of Alitalia from a regional operator of Abruzzo named ItAli Airlines, which is reported to be interested in the acquisition of both the airline’s fleet as well as in the transfer of staff.
But Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi said he was not highly optimistic on the situation of Italy’s national airline.
“Should negotiations with the unions turn out to be unfruitful, the only alternative left would be to declare bankruptcy,” he stated.
Furthermore, government would not be able to extend the 3,250 job guarantees it promised to all the 20,000 airline employees.
