BOV and American Express enter in partnership

Bank of Valletta and American Express have recently signed a card issuance agreement under which Bank of Valletta will distribute a full range of American Express branded Cards in Malta.
This announcement will see the Bank distribute American Express Cards in Malta as from early next year. BOV is the first American Express Global Network Services partner to hold an acquiring license in the Europe, Middle East and Africa territories and has had a license agreement with American Express since 2003.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Tonio Depasquale, Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Valletta said: “The agreement with American Express will give us opportunity to provide customers and non-customers with this prestigious card. By combining the strengths of the two brands, we can offer customers increased choice and a wider range of benefits and services to suit their specific needs. This will continue to make BOV the Brand of Choice for credit cards in Malta”.
Speaking on behalf of American Express, Pascal J. Guignard, Vice President & General Manager, Global Network Services EMEA said : “Bank of Valletta is an outstanding partner to American Express in Malta and has a well deserved reputation as a leading financial services provider to consumers and businesses throughout Malta. I have every confidence that BOV will replicate its success as an American Express merchant services provider within the Card arena and look forward to their launch of the American Express branded Cards”.
This alliance brings together the extensive customer base of Bank of Valletta with the global Card expertise of American Express. American Express Company is a leading global payments, network and travel company founded in 1850.
Since 1996, American Express has been pursuing a strategy geared towards opening its network and its credit card portfolio to third party issuers all over the world, through its Global Network Services division. By maximizing its global infrastructure and the strong appeal of the American Express brand, the company aims at increasing the reach of its network even further. American Express GNS has entered into 124 strategic alliances to issue cards in 125 markets.
