GlobalCapital Financial Management Ltd - Malta Stock Exchange Review

MSE Index gains more points

Yesterday, all traded equities apart from GO p.l.c. recorded a positive movement with the local index closing up 2.66% or 81.3 points at 3140.30 points. It was a particularly good session for Bank of Valletta p.l.c., HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c. and Simonds Farsons Cisk p.l.c. as they all finished on the front foot. On a negative note, the shares of GO p.l.c. traded marginally lower.
The shares of Bank of Valletta p.l.c. stole the show once again and managed to record the best performance of the day. The share price registered a satisfactory €15c0 gain to finish at the €3.35 level. This stock was the most liquid when compared to the other three equities that were negotiated. A total of 25,773 shares changed hands across twelve transactions. Shares were trapped in the range of €3.296 to €3.35. At the end of trading, bids for 600 shares stood at €3.30, whereas the best offer for 3,000 shares stood at €3.39. Week on week, the shares of Bank of Valletta p.l.c. climbed 11.3% from its closing price of €3.01 on Tuesday 22nd September.
Another influential stock on the upside was HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c. This stock witnessed sufficient buying interest to push the share price up €13c0 to the €2.80 level. The turnover amounted to 24,400 shares that were swapped across thirteen deals. The low of the day was €2.75 whereas €2.80 was the highest price that it managed to reach. At market close, best unsatisfied bids stood at €2.75 for 1,000 shares against best offers of 3,000 shares at €2.80. The total turnover of the week amounted to 43,930 shares and carried a market value of €118,836.23.
Remaining on the winners list, the shares of Simonds Farsons Cisk p.l.c. were also in the limelight ahead of the interim results. The share price traded €9c9 higher to close the second session of the week at €1.699 across 840 shares. Trading in this stock was restricted to one trade. On Wednesday 23rd September, the Board of Directors of Simonds Farsons Cisk p.l.c. announced that they shall meet on Wednesday 30th September, 2009 in order to consider and approve, the Company’s Financial Statements for the six month period ending on 31st July 2009. Furthermore, they shall consider the distribution of an interim dividend on all Ordinary Shares held by shareholders on the Register as on Friday 9th October, 2009.
Elsewhere on the board, the shares of GO p.l.c. closed the session weaker by €0c1 to finish at €1.579 across 4,500 shares. These shares were swapped across four trades that carried a market value of €6,834.76. Week on week, the shares of GO p.l.c. surrendered 6.57% from its closing price of €1.69 on Tuesday 22nd September.
Meanwhile, the shares of GlobalCapital p.l.c. are currently trading at €1.50.
In the fixed interest market, a total of €243,688.65 (twenty-three deals) was transacted in Corporate Bonds. Meanwhile, a total of €204,276.13 (sixteen deals) was transacted in Government Bonds.
The turnover value in the Treasury bill secondary market amounted to €2,617,885.62.
