Qatar Airways has launched a new route between Malta and Doha in Qatar, as part of the airline’s drive towards expanding its European network.

The national carrier of Qatar announced this week that it will start operating daily flights between Malta and Doha from 4 June, which will shift to four times a week during the winter period.

Qatar Airways told BusinessToday that the airline is confident its new route connecting Malta to Doha would prove popular with both leisure and business passengers.

The airline said it was anticipating a mix of passengers using the route, including leisure passengers wanting to explore Qatar as a destination in its own right, as well as those using its extensive network of more than 160 global destinations.

“We find people are increasingly keen to explore Qatar as a destination. It is known for its hospitality and has much to offer including a variety of international cuisines, desert safaris and BBQs by the inland sea. It also boasts cultural attractions such as the Museum of Islamic Art and the newly opened Qatar National Museum,” Qatar Airways said.

“Equally we are confident the new route will be attractive to those wishing to visit Malta from Doha, and elsewhere across our network, to explore an island rich in culture, scenery and history,” the carrier added.

Maltese passengers can book their journey to Doha from Malta through Qatar Airways' dedicated website.

Passengers flying from Malta will enjoy a quick and convenient transfer at the airline’s home and hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha, the airline said.

The new route will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft via HIA to over 160 destinations worldwide, with the Malta service opening up new connectivity options for customers to destinations across Africa, Asia and Australia.
