Industrial production up by 1.5% in euro area and by 1.1% in EU in August

In August 2022, the seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 1.5% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU, compared with July 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In July 2022, industrial production decreased by 2.3% in the euro area and by 1.5% in the EU.

In August 2022 compared with August 2021, industrial production increased by 2.5% in the euro area and by 3.5% in the EU.

Monthly comparison

In the euro area in August 2022, compared with July 2022, production of capital goods rose by 2.8%, durable consumer goods by 0.9% and non-durable consumer goods by 0.7%, while production of intermediate goods fell by 0.5% and energy by 2.1%.

In the EU, production of capital goods rose by 2.0%, non-durable consumer goods by 0.9% and durable consumer goods by 0.3%, while production of intermediate goods fell by 0.4% and energy by 2.0%

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were registered in Ireland (+16.6%), Estonia (+5.0%) and Denmark (+4.3%).

The largest decreases were observed in Sweden ( 7.0%), Belgium (-6.1%) and the Netherlands (-1.5%).

Annual comparison

In the euro area in August 2022, compared with August 2021, production of capital goods rose by 8.2%, durable consumer goods by 7.0% and non-durable consumer goods by 0.4%, while production of intermediate goods fell by 0.5% and energy by 2.9%.

In the EU, production of capital goods rose by 8.9%, durable consumer goods by 4.2%, non-durable consumer goods by 3.2% and intermediate goods by 0.1%, while production of energy fell by 0.5%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual increases were registered in Bulgaria (+16.5%), Lithuania (+14.4%) and Denmark (+14.1%). The largest decreases were observed in Belgium (-10.3%), Luxembourg (-2.5%) and Slovakia (-2.0%).
