Malta’s boys in blue can now be contacted for assistance using the ever-popular Facebook Instant Messenger.

Up to now, messages received by the Malta Police Force Facebook page were being handled in their entirety by officers from the Public Relations department.

Now messages sent to The Malta Police Force Facebook page will be handled by the very same officers in charge of handling the traditional emergency calls on the official telephone lines, thus guaranteeing that officers who are trained to handle emergency situations are also assisting persons who seek help on Messenger.

Similar to the conventional methods, the Messenger service is available around the clock and it will now provide the means to report an emergency in an anonymous manner.

Similarly, other crimes and misdoings can also be reported using images and videos.

Despite the change, the Police Force is still urging citizens to use the stipulated phone lines to report an emergency.

The Malta Police can be contacted by calling 112.
