14th edition of the Gozo Tourism Awards recognise achievements in tourist industry

On Thursday 25 January, 2024, the Gozo Tourism Association, organised the fourteenth edition of the Gozo Tourism Awards.

These Awards were bestowed to the Gozo Tourism Worker of the Year, the Gozo Young Tourism Worker of the Year, the Gozo Tourism Investment and Entrepreneurship Award and the Gozo Niche Tourism Achievement Award.

The main objectives of these awards are to acknowledge, commend, encourage and thank all the workers, Entrepreneurs and Entities who distinguish themselves in the performance of their duties and activities in the vital touristic industry in Gozo.

Ronnie Spiteri, a taxi driver, won the Gozo Tourism Worker of the Year Award 2023, whilst the Gozo Young Tourism Worker of the Year Award 2023 was won by Francesco Xuereb, Operations Manager.

This year’s Gozo Tourism Entrepreneurship Award 2023 was won by Rebecca Bonnici of the BELS Language School, whilst the Gozo Niche Achievement Tourism Award was awarded to the Nadur Carnival organised by the Nadur Local Council.

The winners were officially announced by Alfred Grech, LLD. MAG.Jur, Chairman of the adjudicating board which also included Naomi Macdonald, Joseph W Psaila, and Fabienne Etienne.

Finally, the Gozo Tourism Association Council awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism to the late Joseph Spiteri of Ta’ Mena Estate for his investment and achievements in the tourism sector along the years, which contributed towards job creation and economic growth on Gozo.

The Special Recognition Award in Tourism awarded jointly to the Astra Theatre and Aurora Opera House, whilst the Gozo Tourism Commitment Award this year was awarded to the Malta Tourism Authority.

The awards were presented by Clint Camilleri, Minister for Gozo, Gavin Gulia, Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, and Paul Scicluna, Chairman GTA.
