“Whereas the factors supporting the economy in 2023 included strong labour markets, excess Covid-19 savings, and namely expectations of eventual rate cuts, in 2024 the market’s positive performance continues to track the expected downward trend in inflation supported by a softening economy. This will eventually push central bankers to ease monetary policies through eventual rate cuts.”

This was stated by Jordan Portelli, Chief Investment Officer of Calamatta Cuschieri during the company’s ‘Managing Wealth Conference’ hosted recently at Xara Lodge.

In his presentation, Portelli also noted how this outlook is also evolving within the context of economic data points which confirm a decrease in inflation. Compared to the rate of inflation in the Eurozone area in October 2022 when it hit highs of 10.6% the current rate of inflation is now 2.4%.
