A new mobile app is making it easier for tourists to find all the information they want about a range of sights and venues in Malta, from historical structures to places to eat and swimming areas.

The app, VisitMalta+, was launched last month, and while it is primarily aimed at tourists, locals looking for a place to visit for a family outing or a good eatery in their vicinity will find it useful too.

VisitMalta+ is available for iOS and Android, and anyone can start using it simply by downloading it to their phone, signing in using their Google or Facebook accounts (or signing up independently with the app), and picking the dates they will be travelling in Malta. If they are local, they can choose to specify they live on the island.

They can then choose from a number of broad interests, including museums, walks, beaches, restaurants, diving spots, open spaces and gardens. There is even the option of being given information on the means of transportation in a user’s current location.

The Tourism Ministry is planning on boosting the app’s features in the future, including by incorporating virtual reality elements and the gamification of Malta’s tourist experience.
