Nominations for the 2019 Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning (MASP) Awards have started to be received by the Planning Authority.

The MASP Awards which as of this year are under the patronage of the President of Malta Dr George Vella, serve to give due recognition to architects, interior designers and any person who would have made an outstanding contribution over the years through research, education, theory or practice of architecture and the built environment.

The MASP Awards also seek to develop an awareness and appreciation amongst the public on the importance of quality architecture and the value of design in the built environment.

This year the awards in total will cover 11 categories, following the introduction of two new categories.

The new categories include the ‘Urban Planning Concept’ Award which is aimed at promoting projects that are still at concept stage but through which innovative planning solutions address existing challenges within a given space and the ‘President’s Award – The Personality of the Year for the Built Environment’.

This award will be given to that person who would have made an outstanding contribution through research, education, theory or practice of architecture within the built environment.

For this award, a submission may be made by a member of the public or an organisation so long that sufficient evidence is presented. A person cannot nominate oneself.

The other 9 categories are the Rehabilitation & Conservation Award, Urban Design Award, Public Open Spaces Award, Commercial Buildings Award, Interior Architecture Award for Residential Projects, Interior Architecture Award for Commercial Projects, Hospitality, Tourism Accommodation & Leisure Award, Sustainability Award and the Emerging Architect Award.

The finalists of the Awards will be announced on Monday 20 January 2020, while the winners will be announced at a gala night which will be held on Saturday 15 February 2020.

The jury will be composed of both local and foreign professionals within the field.

The jury will also be supported by a technical team, the members of which will be experts in their own fields in accordance with the category topics.

The full list of categories and entry requirements is available at www.maspawards.com Submissions will be received until Monday 16 December 2019 at noon.
