Martin Saliba has taken over the rein at the Planning Authority as its new executive Chairperson.

Saliba who until recently was entrusted with the chairmanship of the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal brings with him years of experience in land use planning and development control services. Saliba presided over the Tibunal, which is a quasi-judicial board having jurisdiction to hear and determine all appeals made by aggrieved persons on any decisions by the Planning Authority and by the Environment and Resources Authority respectively. Prior to this post, Saliba managed and supervised several divisions within the Planning Authority.

Saliba said “Presiding over the Tribunal these past 5 years and having prior to that worked within the Planning Authority for several years, I find myself well-positioned to lead and steer this important institution in the years ahead. After having been responsible to oversee the function of reviewing decisions taken by the Planning Authority, today more than ever before, I understand the organisation’s strengths and weaknesses. Although the task and responsibilities that lie ahead of me are challenging, my purpose will be to achieve Government’s objectives in planning and sustainable development.”

Martin Saliba is succeeding Johann Buttigieg who has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at the Malta Tourism Authority.
