Maltese entrepreneurs seeking expansion in foreign markets could consider establishing direct business contacts with their South African counterparts. For this purpose, a joint Malta-South Africa meeting is set for Monday 7th February at 3pm Malta time via zoom.

This joint meeting is being held to mark BNI’s annual International Networking Week, with this year’s theme being ‘Better Together’. This is the 11th time that Malta BNI is holding this event during the first week of February. In pre-Covid years, Malta BNI held a national event like in other countries, but last year it took the form of an international meeting via zoom.

“The meetings have been a way to discover and build strategic partnerships and profitable business opportunities for Malta BNI members and guests both in Malta and abroad,” said Viviana Premazzi, the coordinator of this event.

Malta BNI’s National Director David Bullock said: “BNI offers the best way to establish a foothold in the lucrative South African market, as well as links into other African markets.  There is a remarkable ‘can do’ attitude rarely found elsewhere.  This event provides a perfect introduction.”

The meeting will be held with BNI Johannesburg North and West Rand which, with 31 chapters, is the largest region for BNI in South Africa.  At 31 Dec 2021, they had 749 companies as members that generated a total of 32,403 business referrals for year 2021.  These referrals resulted in the equivalent of €13 million of closed business.

The BNI Area Director in South Africa, Liesl Janse van Rensburg, said: “Since 2020, Malta BNI has embarked on a very pro-active internationalisation programme making business contacts with companies in Italy, France, Denmark, Israel, Cyprus, USA, and as far away as India and Malaysia. We are also seeking possible business opportunities with operators in the Maltese market.

A number of non-EU entrepreneurs have already set up in Malta as a great entry point to the huge European market, and therefore such possibilities of mutual benefit are already there for both participants from Malta and South Africa at this joint meeting.”

Conducted in English, the meeting will run from 3pm till 5pm. Members and visitors alike attending this virtual meeting will have the opportunity to make a sales pitch introducing their respective services or products, their business needs and markets of interest, and to meet entrepreneurs in break-outs rooms.

As an international business referral organisation, BNI today is established in more than 70 countries across the world with more than 10,500 chapters. Non-BNI businesses from Malta are being invited to join this joint meeting so that they too can experience some of the great potential that BNI’s international dimension can offer, especially in these challenging times.
